What Needs To Happen: Avengers: Infinity War

With Captain America: Civil War now out and released and the official news that Infinity War will be just one film, now would be a good time to list the top five things I'd like to see in Avengers: Infinity War. It has been the film that these films have led up to since 2008s first Iron Man. The picture is in good hands with directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo helming the project after Winter Soldier and Civil War. Although we still have five films to go before Infinity War will be released, I think it's safe to say that we know what we would like to see in the upcoming film. There may or may not be SPOILERS from Civil War in this so "YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!"

1. More Than A Two And A Half Hour Runtime

With the recent news that Infinity War will be one film and the planned second part will be a sequel to that, I would like to have this film to break the two and a half hour barrier that all previous Marvel films have been behind. If you take a look at all the current Marvel films to date, they have all stayed within the two and a half hour mark. None of the films have gone past it with the longest film being Civil War clocking in at about two hours and twenty-seven minutes, but behind them are the two Avengers flicks, so I could gather that Marvel likes to have a longer runtime for the larger ensemble films. Because of that maybe they could push longer and make maybe a Interstellar length film or a Lord Of The Rings length OR, and this seems unlikely, they could make a Ben-Hur length film. Like I said, that last one would seem unlikely, but a Lord Of The Rings length like film could work. Some of you may ask me "Why do you want a longer runtime?" Here's my answer. Think about it. This has been the big thing that everything has led to since 2008 and its title is war. The film will be loaded with characters. We got the Avengers, the Guardians, the heroes from the Netflix series, which to be honest I don't watch, and the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D crew. You got characters that we will meet between now and Infinity War. Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Wasp, and many other events will have occurred. So how are you gonna bring all these characters in a film and have a war too with just a two and a half hour runtime? It'll be like watching a film on fast-forward if they do that. Instead, why don't they take their time with a longer film that doesn't rush through it. Plus your going up against Thanos, and he's not gonna be easy to take down.

2. Return Of Coulson

Let me say that there will be some of you that are reading that like the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D tv show, but the show is a sinking ship. It's not doing particularly well. It's losing viewers and it's not worth keeping the characters away from the movies for a tv show that is losing its momentum. I was bummed when Coulson would not be in the movies anymore, but pleasantly surprised when a year and a half later they started doing the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D show on ABC. I have seen a few episodes of the show and I must be honest in saying that it's not very good. It was entertaining to say the least, but I couldn't connect with the new characters, the effects were weird like most superhero tv shows, and there wasn't enough weaving in between the films and the show. I think that Coulson should make his triumphant return to the films in a dramatic scene where every Avenger is shocked at his unexpected return and how would the heroes react to that? Would they be sad, happy, or angry? Marvel if you're reading, bring him back.

3. WAR!

Now if you're gonna name your movie Infinity War, then you better believe that people want to see that featured a lot in the film. That doesn't mean I want a film with a hundred percent action in it, and that's what the first act is for, but I want a good portion of the second act and the entire third act to be just that. Which kinda ties in to me wanting a three hour plus runtime. A good example for Marvel is the third Lord of the Rings film. How a great protein of that film was battle after battle, and they did save some time for all the chit chat, and if I were Marvel, I'd say that's a great idea. You don't want other situations where the name of the film is deceiving and the story is mostly talking and barely little action to go with that. Like Batman v Superman, and while I haven't seen that film, many complained that for something called Batman v Superman, they fought for a short amount of time. Now Infinity War won't be the final MCU film, but it will be the conclusion of the Avengers vs Thanos story. I want to see something of that level be in the film, which is why it makes the number three spot.

4. What Happened To These Characters?

I would hope that the MCU will not be ending anytime in the near future so as they continue making filmsI want them to show just what happened to the characters that were introduced then dropped without a trace of where they went. In the 2008 Incredible Hulk film, we saw the origin story of Abomination for the last third of the film. We got a thrilling action sequence between him and Abomination, but Hulk didn't kill him, because reasons and that was the last time we saw him. He was mentioned in the short called The Consultant where at the end Coulson said that his current predicament was that he was in a cage of some sort and will remain there for now. For now. What happened to him? I would hope that Marvel would bring him back for a second go. Now from Abomination to his cohort, The Leader. The Leader is actually Dr Samuel Sterns who we last saw giving Blonsky the means of what turned him into the Abomination. Abomination didn't kill him, but rather gave him a a head wound. Guess what got into the head wound. As Abomination flees, a drop of Banner's blood falls into the open head wound and we see his head get bigger. He of course turns into green super genius, The Leader. His powers have to do with his vast intelligence and him being able to create thousands of machines that would put all of Stark's machines to shame. So those are two villains i want to see again in the future. You already know my Red Skull theory if you read my ranking of the current slate of MCU villains so let me jump to the next villain who needs to appear next. That is the REAL Mandarin. Not Aldrich Killian, but the real Mandarin that was mentioned on the short All Hail The King. In it Trevor, fake Mandarin, was being interviewed by someone, who he found out to be working for the Mandarin. His mission was to bring Trevor to him. To quote him "I'm not gonna kill you. He is though. Do I know him? No, but you stole his name and he wants it back." I want to find out who is the he that the guy was talking about. It's likely not gonna happen in Infinity War, and that's why it's number four, but the possibility of them being teased at the end is likely.

5. Death

At the end credits scene of the first Avengers film, Thano's servant explains to Thanos that the invasion failed and that to challenge the humans is to court death and then Thanos grins at that idea. This could mean two things. One, is that he could be telling him that he should be thinking about killing them himself, or he could be talking about this girl. The literal and physical Death. Now she looks something out of He-Man right, but this girl is real in the Marvel universe. She is Thano's, shall we say, love. Yes that's right. Inside that tall and intimidating figure is really a man, who does what he does to impress a girl. He kills people to then give to Death, who she can bring back from the dead if she chooses. Despite his best efforts, Death isn't simply impressed with what he does so he's gonna destroy every single human who stands in his way to take down earth. Now Marvel can bring Death to the films, but if they choose to then please loose the romantic angle of the relationship, otherwise that's gonna be so corny, and such an eye-roller that it could become problematic for them so tread carefully Marvel.

Now that you've seen my wish list for the upcoming film, share yours. I'd be curious to see what you would like it see. I appreciate you guys reading my blog. I won't share what I have coming, because it's going to be a new experiment that you can count on seeing either today, tomorrow, or on Wednesday. Thanks for reading, I'm the film fanatic, bye-bye.
